Net Ministry

Ideas - Updated on July 24, 2007

Here are some ideas for using the web to share the Gospel and promote your church and its ministries:

  • Advertise your church on your city's website.

  • Encourage your members who have personal or business websites to include Scriptures that update daily and links to the plan of salvation.

  • Print the addresses of Bible study helps and other Christian content websites in your bulletin or show them on monitors/displays in your facilities.

  • Host a secular website that provides useful information (car maintenance, skin care, etc.) and include or link to the Gospel.

Websites

Here some of the many websites that have online Bibles, Bible study materials, and other Christian content.

Hints for Church Webmasters:

Thinking about a church website?

Don't be overwhelmed. Your site can be as basic as one page that displays a picture of your church, the address with directions, and service times.  It can grow from there.

Free or Paid Hosting?

If your church webmaster is new to maintaining a site, try the many free hosting sources, but watch out for the banner ads! They may not be to your liking.

You will eventually want your own domain name and site. Both can be purchased for a reasonable fee, typically less than $50/year for a small site.

Need content for your site?

Do a search on "free stuff for church websites" to find all sorts of useful codes that you can copy and paste into your church web pages.

You'll find everything from daily Scripture verses to Christian news links.

What's in a Domain Name?

Some churches prefer the .com suffix as it is the most popular.  Others use .org, .net to avoid the commercial "tag."  If you want a certain name, you may have to try .info or .cc or .ws suffixes.

Also, try for as short a name as possible while keeping the name easy to remember. "www.vinegrovechurch.org" might prove more useful that www.vgbc.ws.  Try polling your members for ideas.

Whatever name you end up with, print it on everything so folks will see it and use it!

Don't Forget...

It's easy to overlook things when you're building a website.  Here are a few key reminders:

=Proofread, proofread, proofread.

=Submit your site to search engines. It's

   free!
